Buzz Aldrin was born in Montclair, NJ on January 20, 1930. His mother, Marion Moon, was the daughter of an Army Chaplain. His father, Edwin Eugene Aldrin, was a Colonel in the United States Air Force, an ScD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an aviation pioneer who later became the Commanding Officer of the Newark Airport in New Jersey. Buzz grew up in New Jersey and after graduating one year early from Montclair High School he was educated at the US Military Academy at West Point, graduating third in his class with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He then joined the Air Force where he flew F86 Sabre Jets in 66 combat missions in Korea, shot down two MIG-15′s, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. After a tour of duty in Germany flying F100′s, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Science in Astronautics at MIT and wrote his thesis on Manned Orbital Rendezvous.

Dr. Andrew Aldrin serves as the President of the Buzz Aldrin Space Foundation, managing overall operations for two entities founded by his father, Buzz Aldrin. These include Buzz Aldrin’s ShareSpace Foundation, which ignites K-12 interest in STEAM fields and boosts scientific literacy, and Buzz Aldrin Enterprises, LLC, which promote the iconic space hero’s brand through public appearances.

In addition to his leadership role at the Aldrin Family Foundation, Andrew is an Associate Professor at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and director of the Aldrin Space Institute (ASI), a multidisciplinary organization created to advance space exploration and development toward the goal of establishing and maintaining a permanent human presence on Mars. He is also the Director of the ISU-Center for Space Entrepreneurship and Commerce at FIT which is developing the next generation of leaders of the commercial space revolution. Prior to FIT, Andrew was president of Moon Express, responsible for day-to-day operations for the company, and
Director of Business Development and Advanced Programs at United Launch Alliance, managing development of corporate strategies, business capture, senior customer relations and advanced program development for civil space markets. He served in a similar position as Director of Business Development and Strategy for Boeing’s NASA Systems and Launch Services business units, Other noted career highlights include resident consultant at the RAND Corporation and professional research staff member at the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Andrew holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from UCLA, an MBA from TRIUM, an MA in science technology and public policy from The George Washington University, and an BA in international relations from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He has also held posts as an Adjunct Faculty member at the International Space University, the University of Houston and California State University at Long Beach.

Layth Carlson, Secretary/Treasurer

Layth Carlson joined Callas & Carlson, a full service business management firm, in 1993 and became a partner in 1999. Prior to this, he worked at City National Bank in the Entertainment Department for five years. Carlson earned a bachelor’s degree (1985) as well as an MBA (1987), both from Loyola Marymount University. Carlson is enrolled to practice by the Internal Revenue Service (1997), and professional associations include the National Society of Enrolled Agents and the California Society of Enrolled Agents. He currently chairs the Palisades-Malibu YMCA and also serves on the board of The Inkwell Theater in Los Angeles. Carlson has worked with Buzz Aldrin’s ShareSpace Foundation since 2011 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2015.

JanJan Aldrin

Jan Aldrin is an Account Executive at Bruce Hanifan Productions in Ventura, CA. An artist through and through, Aldrin plays an integral part in upholding the Hanifan Production’s mission of providing the highest quality music production services possible to their varied clientele. She has worked with many television networks including DISCOVERY CHANNEL, HISTORY and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL, as well as, large and small production companies at all levels in the entertainment industry, providing support for BHP’s music scoring services. Aldrin’s specialty is in all aspects of administrative support and promotional development for the business of film and TV music production. Her love for the arts and technology made her a dynamic fit to join in her father’s vision as a Board Member of Buzz Aldrin’s ShareSpace Foundation to promote science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to young people so that they are inspired to reach their full potential in these fields.

Steve Callas founded Callas & Carlson, a full service  business management firm, in 1990, after having worked in business management for ten years, including six years at Breslauer Jacobson & Rutman. Mr. Callas earned a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton (1976), and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (1980). Professional associations include the American Institute of CPA’s and the California Society of CPA’s. Callas joined Buzz Aldrin’s ShareSpace Foundation in 2011.

Christina KorpChristina Korp

As Manager and Mission Control Director at Buzz Aldrin Enterprises, LLC (BAE), Christina Korp is directly responsible for managing the Buzz Aldrin Brand and ‘all things Buzz.’  As part of Team Buzz for seven years, she oversees company operations, including all marketing, business development, media, licensing, public relations and public appearances by Dr. Buzz Aldrin.  Prior to BAE she was the Operations Director and manager of the Tesh Media Group, owned by TV and Radio personality John Tesh. This encompassed his media company, e-commerce site, record label, radio show and production company where she produced several CD releases and two PBS TV Specials, “Christmas in Positano” and “Worship at Red Rocks”. She project managed and launched “The John Tesh Radio Show,” an internationally syndicated radio show that is now heard in over 300 markets across the globe. Christina was also a featured singer and tour manager of the John Tesh band. She is passionate about helping Buzz Aldrin with his space outreach efforts and has been instrumental in his campaigns to get the mainstream public to care about the space program and specifically Buzz’s Unified Space Vision. As a mom, she is especially interested in getting kids to care about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). The Arts aspect of STEAM has a special place in her heart as her life before Buzz was dedicated to the arts. She has been a member of the board of Buzz Aldrin’s ShareSpace Foundation since 2011.
